Our story
Shine African Market began in 2026, started by Safie and Christiana — a mother and daughter-in-law with a shared kitchen and a shared frustration.
Christiana moved to the United States recently. Like anyone who has made that move, she arrived to find that the ingredients she had cooked with her whole life were suddenly the hardest things to buy. Not unavailable exactly — just scattered, inconsistent, and usually a long drive or a hopeful online order away.
Shine African Market started as the answer to that. Safie and Christiana opened it together so that the oils, the dried fish, the frozen leaves, and the flours a West African kitchen actually runs on would be reliably available in Tucson — chosen by people who cook with them and know what they should look like, smell like, and cost.
Moses, Christiana’s son and Safie’s husband, builds and runs the technology side of the business as CTO. The store itself — what is stocked, how it is sourced, what goes in the pot — is theirs.
If you grew up on cassava leaf and pepper soup, you should be able to find what you need without settling. And if you have never cooked any of this before, you should be able to start without a lecture — just a good first pot, and someone who can tell you how it should turn out.
